The Top 10
Freelancers & Agencies
Below you’ll find hundreds of job websites, newsletters and aggregators for WordPress and Remote (non-WordPress jobs). The WordPress jobs cover all specialties from WordPress plugin and theme development to web design and customer support. The Remote jobs include everything from programming to support roles, marketing and more. Happy hunting!
Living one freelance project to the next. Feeling dependent on trading my time for billable hours. Having to chase down unpaid invoices. Putting out one client fire just to see another flare up. When this happens, it usually means means my subconscious mind is nudging me toward some sort of next chapter. I knew I needed to grow beyond freelancing and build a more scalable business.
Here’s a succinct summary on how to succeed as a WordPress consultant (or any type of consultant) in 10 steps. We all start at the bottom, but as you grow your skills, specialties and the value that you deliver to clients you can raise your rates and grow your team.
Recurring Revenue Products & Services
Here’s the thing I love about recurring revenue. It’s easily predictable. And predictable revenue is good. It lets you plan. It helps you invest in future efforts. It provides what you need to pay your support. Predictable and constant revenue allows you to offer something most customers really want: support and an engaging experience (beyond the sale).
A year and a half ago when I started thinking about what my next side project would be, I couldn’t have imagined the success that it would have. While it may seem small to some people, getting anybody to believe enough in your product to give you money for it is a huge accomplishment that you should be proud of.
Plugins & Themes
When I write “premium WordPress plugins” I’m simply talking about a plugin you charge for. And when I say you’d be wrong, I’m saying that I don’t always believe monetizing the plugin itself is the right course of action. Here are five reasons you shouldn’t release a premium WordPress plugin, and instead give it to the community for free.
The WordPress economy is changing, and many businesses are feeling it. The market is maturing, and customers are behaving differently. It’s happening slowly, but I think everyone realizes things are changing. Often this change has been discussed in terms of hosts and agencies, but let’s talk about products.
Pricing is tough – I know I say that a lot. When you’re pricing WordPress extensions or addons (dependent products), it’s even harder. What I want to do is highlight a challenge that comes from selling dependent products.
2008 doesn’t seem like very long ago. And yet, so much has changed in the last five or six years – particularly when it comes to WordPress themes. Particularly when it comes to selling WordPress themes.
Today we’d like to share one specific example that can help many WordPress agencies (and freelancers) to increase their monthly bottom line with in-house developed plugins & themes. This is the success story of Ryan Theis, a partner of ours. Ryan shares how they did it at their agency – BNG Design, an Inc 5,000 Web Design & Marketing agency from Fargo.
